The Mechanical Products Team (MPT) is seeking a Mechanical Engineer at our Sacramento site that is responsible for solid rocket motor design, composite case design, and integration. You should have experience in the design, fabrication and testing of a variety of solid rocket motor configurations including tactical and strategic propulsion systems.
Be familiar with different industry materials and manufacturing processes associated with the fabrication of solid rocket motors including composite cases, as well as development testing and the qualification of rocket motors for production. You will be responsible for requirements as it pertains to environmental loading and flow down to mechanical sub-systems, putting forth the mechanical architecture of a product, supporting the design phase enabling early cycles of learning, establishing critical design elements and processes, supporting the delivery of the Tech Data Package (TDP), influence integration &qualification plans and model correlation, and maintain the design integrity during the production sustainment lifecycle.
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
You will focus on both in-house and supplier’s design, analysis, and fabrication of components related to missiles systems.
Perform composite design and analysis, and be familiar with fabrication techniques of composite pressure vessels
Integration and testing of solid rocket motors. Expected to effectively present your work in program and business unit reviews.
You will support diverse teams, providing technical oversight to a team often comprised of cross functional disciplines, leveraging their network of Subject Matter Experts.
Plan to perform a wide variety of design tasks in support of the engineering and manufacturing organizations.
Develop solutions to a variety of complex problems using established precedents and policies for guidance.
The work is performed with limited direction either individually, in a team environment, or in a supervisory capacity.
You will use Computer Aided Design (CAD) systems to prepare mechanical design layouts, detail and assembly drawings and models (including but not limited to packaging, mechanisms, and castings) and related documentation in conformance to appropriate program and/or military specifications.
Be responsible for control and release of drawings/models using data management tools such as Windchill.
Function with limited direction or supervision exercising latitude in defining terms and conditions of deliverables in collaboration across Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Quality.
This position can be a Mechanical Engineer II (P02) or a Sr. Mechanical Engineer I (P03), based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position
Qualifications You Must Have:
Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
For a Mechanical Engineer II: Minimum of two (2) years of mechanical design experience in solid rocket motors and/or composite structures
For a Sr. Mechanical Engineer I: Minimum of five (5) years of mechanical design experience in solid rocket motors and/or composite structures
Experience of CREO (Pro/Engineer) or similar solid modeling CAD tool
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)experience
The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Value :
Minimum of six (6) years of mechanical design experience in solid rocket motors and composite structures
Analysis – basic engineering calculation, and familiarity with FEA and ANSYS
Expertise in: Conceptual, developmental, and production design phases
Ability to identify and correct design, model, or drawing errors/omissions/deficiencies and recommend corrective actions or improvements
Ability to perform complex tasks such as preparation of all types of detail drawings, large assemblies, castings or other preforms, interface drawings, various layouts for design concepts
Prior experience using Windchill data management (PDM) tool
Experience with and presenting to FRB, ERB, CCB, MRB, PCB, PMAB, etc.
Effective interpersonal, communication and networking skills, ability to work well with others including customers and suppliers
Motivated self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
Ability to work in a team environment with timely problem resolution utilizing a professional, positive, proactive attitude, strong customer focus, and a desire to help others
Ability to recognize roadblocks/issues and elevate/suggest appropriate corrective action
Existing DoD Secret clearance preferred
