Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer - Flight Simulation
We are currently searching for a Senior Mechanical System Engineer - Simulation Solutions & Services to join our team in Salt Lake City, Utah or Orlando, Florida.
This position is within the Simulation & Training Solutions (STS) business area. STS develops and builds simulators and training systems for both military and commercial customers. Devices range in complexity from desktop training all the way up to high fidelity weapon system and full-flight training systems including full visual, motion, and simulator interoperability. The System Engineer position is to fill a need within the Display Engineering group, supporting the development and sustainment of STS display systems, including display products, domes, projectors, optical designs, and integration with high end image generator computers.
The candidate must be willing to perform a wide variety of functions from start to finish with visual/optical system design and layout, hardware/software integration, system requirements definition, test and evaluation criteria within the Collins Aerospace standards, while working with other engineers within the group. The candidate will utilize several different types of COTS and in-house tool sets to execute the tasks.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 3 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required.
Experience in the use of COTS (Commercial Off The Shelf) software packages (ie Solid Works, ANSYS, etc…) to generate system layouts and evaluate feasibilities
Optical systems experience (lens performance, resolution measurement, etc…)
Ability to multitask and work well in an interdisciplinary environment
Designs and manages engineering systems over their life cycles.
Supports plans and strategies for requirements management, reliability, logistics, coordination of different teams, evaluation measurements, and other disciplines for large or complex projects.
Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems.
Must be a U.S. citizen
Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements
Ability to Travel to Customer Site for debugging of issues (25-35% of the total project effort)
Experience with Microsoft Project, Excel, Power Point and Word
Good written and oral communication skills
DOORS or Jama for requirements management
ALM and JIRA
Capture and analyze customer requirements; derive product requirements.
System level design considerations including electrical, optical, thermal, weight/load, and manufacturability.
Development of design requirements derived from customer specifications.
Generate presentations and documents to include design reviews, requirements reviews, test procedures, etc…
Create/modify engineering design documentation.
Support transition of design into manufacturing/production.
Collaborate with software engineers, test engineers, hardware engineers, and project management
Support installations as needed.
