Whole Life Engineering (WLE) is responsible for ensuring our products are Safe, Reliable, Maintainable, and delivered on time. WLE consists of multiple disciplines that support engineering, our program offices, and our customers. Our WLE disciplines participate in the total life cycle of our products from conception to deactivation. Our focus area is product support, including the following disciplines: Reliability, System Safety, and Supportability.
As a Zumwalt Hull, Mechanical & Electrical (HME) Lead/Test Engineer, you’re a member of the Zumwalt Ship’s Control Systems Team. In this role, you’ll apply your experience and technical expertise in support of the integration, test/evaluation, preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance (repair/recovery), and in-service support of the following subsystems:
Engineering Control System (ECS)
Navigational Sensor System Interface (NAVSSI)
Ship Control Subsystem (SCS)
AN/WSN-7 Ring Laser Gyrocompass
Integrated Bridge System (IBS)
SPS 73 Radar
Voyage Management System (VMS)
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
Analyzing equipment failures to determine cause and taking corrective action based on your analysis
Working with the team to advise on and assist in developing preventative maintenance programs
Communicating with the customer
Keeping and maintaining equipment status records
Participation in the installation phase (e.g., startup and checkout of control systems and equipment) will be required.
Assist in the integration and testing of other systems under the purview of the team.
Additional responsibilities include:
Electronic equipment troubleshooting and repair.
Providing assistance or advice on implementing preventative maintenance programs.
Creating logistic support artifacts such as technical manuals, instructions, spare parts, and training documentation.
The work will be performed mostly on board a naval vessel under construction and during sea trials. Prior experience working in this environment is desirable.

MUST wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Work in confined spaces
Work in arduous climates
Work in high places
Ability to lift and carry 35 lbs.
Ability to work in an industrial environment
Able to live and work for short periods at sea onboard a US Navy vessel
This position requires up to approximately 15% travel.
An advanced degree may be considered for additional years of experience as follows: Master’s Degree is equal to 2 years of experience and a Ph.D. is equal to 4 years of experience
Qualifications You Must Have:
Education: Bachelor’s degree or an additional 2 years of relevant experience may be substituted for each 1 year of college
8+ years’ experience supporting shipboard electronic control systems (e.g. engineering, navigational, radar or voyage management systems)
Technical support experience with electronic navigation and/or network communication systems
Experience analyzing equipment failures to determine cause and perform corrective actions.
The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. US Citizenship is required, as only US Citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Knowledge of both Analog and Digital signal processing
Extensive experience with signal verification activities, test procedure development and test conduct
Strong communication skills and ability to work well under pressure
Ability to work independently and as a team member.
Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
