Raytheon Technologies Meteorologist / Network Control Analyst in Silver Spring, Maryland

Raytheon Intelligence and Space (RIS) is looking for a Meteorologist / Network Control Analyst on 3rd shift to support the National Weather Service (NWS) Network Control Facility (NCF) on the Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) program program in Silver Spring, Maryland.

The Advance Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) provides cutting-edge technology to the National Weather Service. AWIPS is the corner stone of a multi-year modernization program allowing revolutionary improvements to the National Weather Service (NWS) products and services. It is a high-visibility program of great importance to the United States government and to the Nation. AWIPS is a technological wonder that consists of a nationwide network of approximately 160 sophisticated data collection and processing National Weather Service sites. The AWIPS sites are linked with a state-of-the-art communications system so that the meteorologists and hydrologists are prepared to provide the most accurate forecasts in the quickest time possible.

In this role, you will work with an amazing team that AWIPS providing National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS) with the means to integrate meteorological and hydrological data into a single computer workstation. As the NWS’ partner this team is responsible for AWIPS operations, maintenance, 24/7 technical support, and Product Improvement, the Raytheon AWIPS team supports these critical operations.

This position is located in Silver Spring, Maryland. Relocation assistance is not authorized for this position.

What You will Get to Do:

As a Network Control Analyst, you will providing Help Desk Type support and Network Operations support to the Weather Forecast Offices, NWS National Centers, and River Forecast Centers. The NCF is a 24x7x365 facility.

Support includes correcting site processes and interface system issues, wide area network (WAN) problems and satellite broadcast problems. The person must also be able to independently detect and troubleshoot failures, interact with forecast office personnel and third party vendors for site support, and accurately document all actions taken and provide customer feedback.

You will Bring These Qualifications :

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Meteorology or a closely related field

  • Experience using RedHat Linux and UNIX

  • Knowledge/experience using PostGres

  • Ability to work flexible shift schedule including day, evening/nights and weekends (12 hour shift 4 days’ on/4 days off)

    It Would Be Great if You Also Had:

  • Knowledge/experience with JAVA

  • Knowledge/experience with Python
