Raytheon Technologies JPSS Security and Infrastructure Sys Ad (Sr System Admin I) in Suitland, Maryland

The Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) program, Mission Support Team (MST) is seeking a highly motivated Systems Administrator (SA) to provide support to the JPSS ground system at the NOAA Satellite Operations Facility (NSOF) in Suitland, Maryland and Raytheon facility in Riverdale, Maryland.

The JPSS program is developing the next-generation weather satellite system. Raytheon is developing, deploying, and sustaining the JPSS Command, Control, and Communications Segment (C3S), the Interface Data Processing Segment (IDPS). For more information on JPSS, see:


The successful candidate will be responsible for administering computers and storage systems used for real time commanding of the JPSS satellites. The SA will report to the Lead Systems Administrator and perform tasks assigned.

Must be able to pass a national agency background check in order to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) for access to customer IT systems.

Secret Clearance highly desired. Travel is as-required inside and outside the Continental United States (<5%).

Normal work hours 8AM—5PM require flex as required for various activities including sometimes off-hours, weekends and possibly holidays depending on mission needs.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Apply security patches and update Anti-virus definition files.

  • Create, update, and remove user accounts and privileges.

  • Install and configure Microsoft Windows7/Server 2008R2 as well as Microsoft Windows 10/Server 2016

  • Install and configure various COTS products.

  • Understand and have a working knowledge of virtualized environments such as VMware (VSphere /VMware horizon client).

  • Understand and have working knowledge of Active Directory, LDAP.

  • Understand have a working knowledge of BigFix /TEM fixlet generation and execution

  • Creating and deploying images using Symantec Ghost.

  • Understand and have working knowledge of file transfer protocol (Tectia SSH cleint/server).

  • Troubleshoot software and hardware issues.

  • Work with vendors for maintenance support of hardware and software.

  • Ensure that all computer and storage resources are configured and maintained to the system baseline and troubleshooting and restoration activities in the event of resource failures.

  • Monitor local system usage logs, trend and analyze data on system resource usage and reconfigure the system as necessary to ensure the highest levels of availability for operations.

  • Interface with the Sustainment team at the Ground Integrated Support Facility (GISF) under the direction of the lead system administrator at the Mission Management Center (MMC) for anomaly resolution and installations.

  • Install and test operating system upgrades, firmware upgrades, security configurations.

  • Write and execute Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and perform configuration management as needed.

  • Develop scripts to provide reporting and to automate recurring tasks.

Required Skills:

Must be able to pass a National Agency Check to obtain a Common Access Card after hiring.

At least four years professional experience in Windows administration; solid knowledge of systems administration principles in Operational environment.

  • Experience configuring server and storage hardware.

  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve server, storage, and network problems.

  • Demonstrated ability to self-manage work assignments with minimal supervision.

  • Experience and knowledge of network (LAN/WAN) architecture, protocols and equipment.

  • Ability to work scheduled evenings and weekends as needed to support ongoing operations.

Desired Skills

Experience with

  • Storage Area Network (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS) systems.

  • Cisco networking devices

  • IBM p-series systems.

Experience with Database products, such as Oracle, MS-SQL, or mySQL

Knowledge of Web development tools, such Java, Java script.

Experience in the IBM Rational Suite of systems.

Familiar with:

  • Satellite operations.

  • Meteorological operations, NASA, or NOAA.

  • Raytheon proprietary Equinox® software.

Required Education:

Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, EE, Information Systems, or other STEM discipline and four years prior relevant experience,


Twelve years of applicable experience in lieu of degree.
