Engineering Support Technician
Engineering Support Technicians are responsible for providing support on modifying, installing, and repairing Engineering builds and systems. Work may include assignments to a team of engineering support personnel that addresses a wide array of engineering environments such as Prototyping, Radio Frequency, High Voltage, field service, engineering installations, and repairs of returned materials. In the different Engineering environments, the candidate will be responsible for utilizing their skills to assemble, rework, and modify Engineering prototype sub-assemblies, final assemblies and systems per engineering drawings and/or work instructions.
Typical job duties and responsibilities:
Build and modify Engineering prototype micro-assemblies and micro-subassemblies to ensure proper operation per established criteria. Perform required repairs to returned/damaged units back to an operational state. This may include:
Replacing engineering mechanical and micro-electrical components.
Works from preliminary design drawings, sketches, and schematics as well as oral and written instructions.
Follows Manufacturing Engineers and Responsible Engineering Authorities sequence of operations to fabricate, assemble, and troubleshoot electro-mechanical manufacturing and development systems, sub-systems, units, control devices and associated test equipment.
Fabricates, assembles, troubleshoots, and tests cables to include cable splicing and connector attachment for all types of cables using both hand and automated tooling.
Sets up operates a variety of standard and specialized opto-electronic test equipment in conducting test to determine the quality of electro-mechanical equipment or multiple banks of inter-related electro-mechanical equipment.
Diagnoses the cause of malfunctions and makes necessary adjustments.
May use hand and power tools and equipment as necessary in order to perform above duties
Performs rework and repair of the same nature and level of difficulty as described.
Performs incidental related duties as assigned.
U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.
Please note: This position can be a Tech Support Specialist or a Sr. Tech Support Specialist based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience, and responsibility requirements for the position.
Required Skills and Education:
US Citizenship required
6 years of experience in manufacturing, fabrication or similar discipline which could include military experience.
CCA micro-manufacturing and CCA micro-rework experience.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Active Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance
Ability to obtain and maintain the following certifications:
IPC CIS J-STD-001 solder certification
IPC CIS 610 Certification
IPC CIS 620 Certification
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) to effectively communicate across all levels of the organization.
Experience with Fabrication processes such as bonding and coating.
Knowledge in the use of o-scopes, network analyzers, and signal generators.
Experience operating and troubleshooting vacuum systems
Experience reading mechanical drawings and electric schematics
Experience with communication systems and interconnect (fiber optic cables, coax, Ethernet)
Ability to work with large and small teams, depending on circumstances
This position requires the successful issuance, transfer or maintenance of any clearances and/or accesses necessary for the position.
