Job Description

Interns can expect to have exposure to the role of a

Production and Planning Control Specialist.

A PPCS will perform a variety of technical and business tasks in support of production programs. This individual may manage multiple assemblies and the tasks listed below. The associated tasks are necessary in order to prevent a work stoppage or a slip in schedule, both of which would have a significant impact to the program’s cost and schedule requirements.

Tasks of a PPCS can include the following:

The individual will review, plans, prepare, issue, and control production schedules and changes associated with his/her assemblies. Insufficient planning on the part of this individual could have a negative impact on the program meeting financial and schedule requirements.

Evaluates and coordinates material requirements to ensure a controlled flow of approved materials timed to meet production/customer requirements

Responsible to evaluate and status the assemblies that are in progress, material availability, and potential production problems. Insufficient evaluation on the part of this individual could impact the work being performed and possibly cause a work stoppage

Solves any potential production problems to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials, and services are provided as needed

Control and analysis of multiple, and moderate complexity, bill of materials in an MRP system

Schedules equipment and personnel, confirms material supply demand, and prepares necessary work orders based on shop load and inventory requirements

Schedules and expedites the movement of parts by means of move orders, stock transfers, and requests for shipping orders

Responsible for the material tracking from purchase order release to the receipt of the material

Propose solutions to mitigate any work stoppage the factory teams may experience due to any slips in material orders

Authorizes factory work via assembly work orders and follows that

through to completion

May build and manage Rapid Response work books to support data integrity for Production Control

Required Skills:

Pursuing Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or Operations Management or other closely related discipline

Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel and Word)

Desired Skills:

Familiarity with SAP systems

Familiarity with Rapid Response

Application of concepts and principles of Production and Planning Control fundamentals to include:


Inventory Management

JIT Concepts

Propose solutions to a variety of problems of minor scope and complexity.

Critical thinking and analysis skills to ensure detailed status provided to the Value Stream Manager and team

Experience contributing to the completion of organizational projects and goals

Working knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint

Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

Excellent writing, speaking, analytical, organizational skills

This position can be a Salary Grade SA02, SA03, SA04 or Salary Grade SA05 based on the candidate's qualifications and standing as outlined below:

SA02 (Sophomore Admin Intern) - must have completed 30 hours of college

SA03 (Junior Admin Intern

) - must have completed 60 hours of college

SA04 (Senior Admin Intern) - must have completed 90 hours of college

SA05 (Post Grad Admin Intern) - must have completed 90 hours of college

This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Non-US citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Defense Industrial Security Clearance Office (DISCO), an agency of the Department of Defense, handles and adjudicates the security clearance process. Security clearance factors include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the US, foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and drug involvement. Employment is contingent on other factors, including, but not limited to, background checks and drug screens.
