Raytheon Technologies’ Mechanical Products Team provides engineering design & development to a wide range of hardware in the Raytheon Missiles & Defense business. The Agile Hardware Solutions department is responsible for improving the cost competitiveness of the work products developed by the Mechanical Products Team, through both workforce efficiency and product affordability optimization.
The Tolerance Management Team (TMT) member is part of the overall Producibility Team within Agile Hardware Solutions. The TMT member works directly with Mechanical Engineering, Materials & Processes, and Design & Drafting from the Mechanical Products Team as well as our Operations, Quality and Supply Chain peers, and suppliers, to implement mechanical improvements on new and emerging programs along with upgrades to existing programs. Early engagement in the conceptual stage and throughout the development process will ensure that our designs are optimized. The Tolerance Management Team is an integral part of the Integrated Product Team (IPT) and plays an essential part in reducing product cost. The TMT candidate will develop technical solutions to complex problems that require regular use of ingenuity, innovation, creativity and accountability to cost and schedule.
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
As a member of the Tolerance Management Team within Producibility, you may support the team in the following ways:
Perform detailed 1D, 2D, and 3D dimensional tolerance analyses using various tools to evaluate design requirements of new and existing designs to calculate design margin / capability, and provide recommendations while adhering to cost, schedule, and manufacturing constraints
Apply and interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) on various technical data packages
Contribute to the development and training of the practical application of GD&T, tolerance analysis methods, and tools
Function as a self-starter without appreciable direction or supervision while exercising considerable latitude in determining the strategic objectives and methods of achieving tolerance management goals
Qualifications You Must Have:
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree, or other Engineering discipline, or equivalent
Minimum of 5 years professional experience including expertise in the application of GD&T principles (IAW ASME Y14.5-1994), and in performing detailed Tolerance Analysis on complex mechanical designs
Demonstrated working knowledge of statistical tolerancing methods (e.g. Monte Carlo simulations, RSS, MRSS, etc.)
Knowledge in the application of GD&T principles (IAW ASME Y14.5-1994)
Proficiency with CAD modeling (prefer Pro/E, CREO)
Working knowledge of fabrication processes, producibility enhancements, and inspection and validation methods
The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Value:
ASME Certified GD&T Professional (GDTP per ASME Y14.5.2) or equivalent
Experience and confidence training and coaching others in Tolerance Analysis and GD&T, including the development of classroom and virtual training material
Ability to lead teams on company-wide strategic initiatives to advance employees’ Tolerance Analysis and GD&T skills
Knowledge or expertise of other revisions of ANSI/ASME Y14.5 (past and future) and other industry standards
Proficiency with commercial tolerance analysis tools (preferably Siemens visVSA)
Experience in mechanical design
ASME standard (e.g.Y14.5) committee membership or similar involvement
Thorough understanding in the practical application of statistics
Expertise in various Inspection and Validation methods and tools, including gages & Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs)
Working knowledge of Raytheon processes and procedures
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal (classroom, strategy presentations) and written (technical writing for reports, specifications, presentations, etc. using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
