Raytheon Missiles & Defense Directed Energy Group is part of Raytheon Technologies Advanced Technologies (AT) product line, providing comprehensive, end-to-end HPM system solutions for various customers throughout the Department of Defense.
Raytheon’s Directed Energy Group is looking for a Section Leader to join their team of highly motivated team members with expertise in the areas of prime power engineering, pulsed power design & engineering, High Power Electromagnetic source design & engineering, novel antenna design & engineering, and diagnostics and effects testing. The Directed Energy Group reaches through and collaborates with numerous groups throughout Raytheon Technologies, collaborating with flight test and satellite systems support and tracking, large facility operations, maintenance, and engineering, sensor development and diagnostics; control and data acquisition systems, software and automation, materials fabrication, assembly, processing and coating, quality engineering, and document production, imaging and management.
The Section Leader performs direct line management activities and provides leadership for the team of approximately 10 engineers. These activities include technical oversight of programs, technical development of people, training, performance management and resource allocation. The successful candidate will perform day-to-day management of the section with the primary responsibility of ensuring that each employee has suitable work assignments and opportunities for growth and advancement. Management duties include performance development and appraisal, salary planning, manpower planning, career coaching, and ensuring adherence to company policies. Candidates will contribute to the technical oversight of employees, monitor program execution, and provide technical expertise in direct support of program efforts and proposal activities.
The candidate will ensure two-way communication for section members; serve as the day-to-day liaison to the programs concerning employee job assignments, performance and recognition. Responsibilities also include coordinating program staffing needs and reductions, optimizing resource utilization and interviewing applicants
The primary work location will be on-site at the Raytheon Tucson office; some travel will be required to meet and work with vendors and to support testing and other activities as needed.
An advanced degree can be substituted for additional years of experience as follows:
Master’s is equal to 2 years of experience or a Ph.D. is equal to 4 years of experience.
Qualifications You Must Have:
Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electro/Mechanical or Aerospace or related.
10+ years of engineering experience preferably experience in an array of Mechanical and system design
Familiarity with Engineering Labor Forecasting
Experience with CAD solid modeling tools and analysis tools
Experience in applied Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance
2+ years of experience in managing teams (frontline or project leader)
Experience managing multiple projects and priorities
Experience in military applications and environments
Experience with an Earned Value Management System
The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Value:
Master of Science in Mechanical or Electro/Mechanical or Aerospace or related
12+ years of demonstrated experience in the development of advanced technologies.
Experience with System Requirement Review (SRR) Preliminary Design Review (PDR) and Critical Design Review (CDR)
Strong history of patents related to HPM system designs
Demonstrated experience and understanding of basic standards of program management.
Familiarity with Performance Development Process
Strong Leadership experience in empowering employees, managing and motivating teams, and fostering collaboration
Excellent written and verbal skills
Strong skills in communication, interpersonal and action
Active Secret/Top Secret Clearance.
