Whole Life Engineering (WLE) is responsible for ensuring our products are Safe, Reliable, Maintainable, and delivered on time. WLE consists of multiple disciplines that support engineering, our program offices, and our customers. Our WLE disciplines participate in the total life cycle of our products from conception to deactivation. Our focus area is product support, including the following disciplines: Reliability System Safety and Supportability.
The Missiles Reliability Engineering Department Leader (DL) is responsible for RMD product reliability throughout the product life cycle. As such, the Reliability DL interacts with customer counterparts, customer and Raytheon program offices, and other Engineering disciplines. This position's responsibilities span all stages of the life cycle from conceptual design to demilitarization of the products.
This Department Leader will lead a department of approximately 90 engineers supporting programs within multiple Mission Areas.
Major Leadership and Management Responsibilities
Oversee program execution for design, development, and credible use of applied Reliability Engineering tools and methodologies.
Identify and support development of Reliability Engineering capabilities for new business applications and technologies that are key to RMD growth, including core business areas and adjacent markets.
Participate in development of strategic plans for Reliability Engineering technology, tools, and processes.
Serve as Reliability point of contact for Mission Areas, Program Chief Engineers, Lead Systems Engineers, Chief Technologists, and Program Managers.
Review and approve EACs on department supported programs.
Provide effective guidance, coaching and leadership to Section Leaders and IPT / CPT Leads to ensure effective communications and for effective execution of the bid/proposal process and utilization of EVMS, IMS and IMP tools in program execution support.
Participate in various reviews including EAC reviews, peer reviews, design reviews, gate reviews, BOE reviews, and test reviews.
Drive employee performance management including goal setting, career guidance, performance feedback, compensation, training, and development.
Partner with Talent Acquisition to support business needs through appropriate hiring and staffing.
Develop partnerships across Raytheon, industry, and academia to facilitate strategic capability development.
Prepare for and conduct overhead budget and department operating reviews using RMD engineering tools with the WLE Director and the WLE Financial Manager.
Lead the Department in the achievement of WLE Directorate, RMD Engineering, and RMD Business Unit goals.
Represent Reliability Engineering interests in collaboration with the entire WLE Leadership Team to support business activities within and important to the WLE Directorate.
Collaborate with the WLE Directorate and RMS Engineering extended leadership teams.
Champion leadership, respect, ethics, and diversity initiatives within the Department.
This position requires a current Secret U.S. Security Clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications you need to have:
B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or other related STEM discipline.
12+ years professional work experience with expertise (ten years with a Master’s Degree)
Direct experience with, and familiarity of Reliability Engineering standards, processes, and tools
Demonstrated experience in developing and executing Reliability Program Plans encompassing reliability analyses, software reliability, reliability growth, and reliability testing
Experience in roles managing and supervising teams of 50+ engineers with technical and management responsibilities
Ability to provide guidance, coaching, and direction to Section Leaders, IPT Leads, and CPT leads.
Ability to balance the diverse needs of an engineering organization within a large corporation with the personal needs of employees and technology development needs.
Ability to work effectively on multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic environment.
United States Citizenship.
Active DoD Secret Clearance.
Must be able to obtain additional clearances to access proprietary programs.
Qualifications we value:
M.S. or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or other related STEM discipline.
Experience developing proposals including bidding process, generation of cost and technical volumes, and proposal simulations.
Experience in Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS).
Experience with staffing and workforce planning.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience leading a multi-disciplined organization.
Program experience as a Reliability Engineer, driving architectures that include Design for Reliability and Design for Safety requirements
Known and recognized authority for Reliability Engineering
Experience in concept-development studies and systems architecture.
Effective leadership presence during group and individual interactions.
Strong judgment and decision-making abilities.
Excellent follow-through and persistence.
Ability to state and execute a clear and achievable vision for Department.
Experience and expertise on missile programs, including program-specific security clearances.
TS DoD Clearance preferred. Employees will be working proprietary efforts.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact positively with peers, programs, senior RMS management, and customers in a team environment.
