Senior Electrical / Avionics Systems Engineer – Communication Systems
Summary of Role:
We have an opportunity for an individual to join our Airborne Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (AISR) business in support of the delivery of complex mission systems.
The Senior Electrical/Avionics Systems Engineer – Communication Systems is required to undertake a key role within the Systems Engineering Team supporting the design, build and certification of multiple aircraft projects across all Raytheon AISR sites.
The work of the Systems Engineering Team includes providing technical solutions and developing modifications to both military and civil aircraft.
This can include the introduction of new aircraft avionic or mission systems, electrical power generation and distribution as well as RF equipment.
The successful candidate will primarily specialise in the specification, design, integration and certification of Communication and Intercom Systems into AISR platforms.
Responsible for the design of Communications System solutions to meet system requirements (both certification and customer), including specification of equipment and the development of the platform integration solution.
Taking ownership of aircraft modification packages throughout the entire engineering design lifecycle.
Customer liaison to develop customer concepts and capture requirements.
Liaison with Original Equipment Manufacturers and other suppliers to specify and gather detailed understanding and suitable documentation to facilitate detailed installation/ integration design of 3rd party equipment and/or sensor systems.
Analysis of systems design issues, determination of actions and solutions.
Presentation of concepts, system designs and modifications internally and externally.
Production of technical documentation including but not limited to: System Design Documents, ICDs, System Architecture & Circuit Diagrams, Equipment/System Specifications, Test Schedules & Reports.
Liaison with the Production Organisation to solve problems arising during system installation and test.
Liaison with Test/ Production Engineers and the Flight Test Department to complete test regimes as required.
Production of modification documentation and subsequent certification of the resulting modification with CAA, EASA, MAA or other agencies as appropriate.
Liaison with Certification Authorities as required.
Supporting the Engineering Managers and Business Development personnel in the preparation of bids and proposals for future business.
Candidate Competency Requirements:
Systems Engineering experience developing complex systems through all of the following; Requirements Capture; Analysis; Architecture; Modelling; Design & Development; Integration; Verification and Validation, Certification of civil or military systems.
Experience in the design, integration and certification of platform communications systems in either civil or military environments.
Knowledge of Communication Systems technologies and applications, such as: HF, VHF, UHF, Satcom, Microwave, Cellular, LOS, BLOS, Datalink, Encryption.
Knowledge and application of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) practices, and Environmental Qualification of systems and equipment.
Experience of working within a multi-discipline engineering team within the aerospace, land or maritime industries.
Collaboration - Experience in developing technical specifications and technically managing sub-contractors and suppliers.
Experience in planning, estimating and delivering engineering tasks to plan.
Flexibility – the ability to support multiple projects and teams, adapting to changing priorities and ability to support business requirements at different locations.
An able communicator in verbal, written and presentational forms.
A logical problem solver who can operate effectively under stretching project constraints, and is able to work within agreed timescales.
Eligible for or holder of current SC security clearance (RSL will sponsor as required).
Knowledge of avionic sensors and systems and their application.
Knowledge of RF Antenna types and applications.
Knowledge of civil and/or military modification and certification processes, including knowledge of EASA/ FAA certification requirements.
Experience in the support of Production Organisations from within a Design Organisation.
Experience of Communication Systems Lab/Rig, Ground and Flight testing in an aerospace environment.
Experience in leading and developing Engineering teams.
Degree or equivalent qualification/experience in Electrical, Electronic, Aerospace or Avionic engineering, Physics or similar scientific discipline.
