The F135 High Pressure Compressor, HPC, Design team is seeking an experienced designer to provide technical leadership. A strong background and expertise in military Fan, Low and HPC design is desired. If you have a relevant design background or experience in these areas and possess the skills and motivation to bring new ideas into practice and lead a military HPC Design and Development Effort, we would like to like to hear from you.

This is a Design Integration Lead position in Cold Section Engineering supporting the development of High Compressor modules for military programs. This associate will be responsible for integrating the overall design of the compression system with the system design and the Integrated product teams. The candidate will manage the BOM and will define engineering requirements for the module utilizing graphical layouts. The design integrator will work with the module center part families and mating module centers to ensure that all design requirements for the module are met.

The skill to build and evaluate detailed and module system models is required. The capability to interpret analysis results for accuracy and propose alternate configurations to resolve design issues are key elements of this position. To ensure design robustness the candidate must be savvy in design for variability and automated design optimization methods and assist in the detailed review of part family and system level designs. The candidate will be responsible for module design reviews, Assembly drawings, FMEAs, Gapping, FMRS, and job documentation.

This position is a leadership position where the integrator will team with system design and other module centers to develop world class products. Significant interaction with internal and external customers is expected. The associate in this position must have exceptional problem solving skills and be the “go to person” for help in answering difficult design questions. Communication skills and assertiveness are key qualities to possess.

Key job functions:

  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to design associates to advance their proficiency

  • Engage the team in the resolution of technical problems within program schedule milestones.

  • Proactively develop mechanical arrangements that result in products and components that are low cost and competitively superior within program schedule milestones.

  • Lead root cause investigations and ensure robust product and process corrective actions are implemented.

  • Maintain awareness of emerging trends in mechanical design processes and product technologies to steer the team in the execution of a world class design

  • Collaboration with multi-disciplinary Integrated Product Teams, discipline chiefs and subject matter experts to manage the discipline review process and ensure readiness for product reviews to ensure first time design quality.

  • Communicate with team leadership and management on status and risks to program schedule and metrics.

  • Support development of Engineering Standard Work, Training and provide expertise to Mechanical Design Engineers via coaching and mentoring.

Basic Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering required.

  • 10 years of Mechanical Design engineering experience with proficiency in Teamcenter, Unigraphics, Ansys, and classical methods of analysis required or 7+ years with an advance degree.

  • US Citizenship due to program requirement

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. in Mechanical, Aerospace engineering or Engineering Science preferred.

  • Compression Systems Design experience and automated design optimization skills is a plus.

  • Candidate should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • A broad understanding of hardware, drawings and manufacturing methods is expected.

  • ACE skills are also essential to be successful in this role.
