The Manager of the Collins Fire and Overheat Detection Engineering team is responsible for the linear and optical fire and overheat detection product lines. This role will report to the Engineering Director and be located onsite in Wilson, NC.
Support new program design from proposal stage through entire product life cycle for Thermistor, Eutectic Salt, Firewire and APD linear detectors and UV and IR optical fire detectors.
Platform system definition, proposal preparation, requirements negotiations and alignment.
Once selected, refine system definition and close all requirements gaps.
Define tasks needed to bring existing product offerings to the needs of the specific application.
Drive design and drawing creation for new hardware.
Develop Validation and Qualification Test Plans.
Work with IPT lead to drive/support creation and review of all program required documentation.
Work with IPT lead to manage hardware acquisition for development, validation and qualification testing.
Support Qualification Testing and serve as technical lead to ensure proper test setup and execution to customer and federal requirements.
Support all design reviews and other customer reviews.
Support customer during flight test and entry into service.
Create/Drive creation of FAA TSO approval application packages and drive those through the approval process.
Support in service questions and customer issues that may arise. Serve as a lead customer contact to support those efforts.
Lead resolution to in service issues as needed, including customer visits as required.
Lead any field service issue visits, including NTSB when required.
Support/coordinate support to operations when production build or yield issues arise.
Disposition QN’s and create EO’s as needed.
Drive support of CIT’s, IPT’s, Redline Reviews and CCB’s.
Lead and develop assigned team of supporting engineers and technicians including mentoring, performance reviews, and personnel issues.
Team with IPT lead to manage KanBan board and daily update meetings
Support Tier III meetings.
Ensure all team and personal training is completed on time and training is identified and managed via a training matrix for the team.
Exceptional oral and communication skills up and down the organization, strong organization skills and ability to manage multiple simultaneous efforts.
Work closely with the engineering and business development Product Family Teams to understand functional and non-functional requirements, with the goal of avoiding unnecessary design iterations.
Coordinate SIS India strategic initiatives and ensure harmonized communication between the site and SIS India.
Collaborate with engineering and business development Product Family Teams in defining the vision for key product families.
Demonstrate leadership abilities to our customers with the development of software upgrades, enhancements and fixes that are coordinated based on release schedules
Provide leadership and guidance to coach, motivate, and lead team members to their optimum performance levels and career development
Other tasks as needed/assigned to
Bachelor’s degree (Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and 8 years of prior relevant experience OR
Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years’ experience OR
In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required
Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder
Must have proficient experience in mechanical design, specifically with new product design
Demonstrated leadership experience in either a formal or informal capacity
Experience with program execution, budget and schedule responsibility
