Collins Aerospace is searching for a Supervisor, Materials Engineering within the ISRSS Windsor Locks and Houston facilities, centered around our extremely diverse product line encompassing life support and thermal control systems. In this position, the successful candidate will be responsible for management and oversight of the a team of 10-15 materials engineers of various disciplines, while also providing significant technical background in this discipline for the team.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide periodic reporting to value stream and engineering leadership on the status of program commitments including drawing reviews, materials engineering memos, material review support, and status of laboratory projects/tasks

  • Provide technical oversight and guidance to the Materials Engineering team and associated labs

  • Provide material science expertise to the Quality organization on material quality processes and issues and failure analysis

  • Use the ACE operating systems, driving process improvements associated with the Material Engineering discipline

  • Provide career development of junior and senior engineers as well as subject matter experts within the department

  • Hold weekly or bi-weekly staff meetings to include all associates and twice yearly performance feedback for all associates

  • Review and sign time cards on a weekly basis

  • Oversee auditors evaluating supplier special processes

  • Participate in component and system design reviews

  • Support review of contract requirements

  • Provide manpower estimates for various tasks

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of prior relevant experience OR • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years experience OR • In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required

  • Demonstrated background on RCA, Fault Tree Analysis and the ability to collaborate with functional owners to address systemic issue and prevent recurrence

  • Familiarity with NASA Materials and Process requirements

  • Solid background in the development and control of special processes

  • Demonstrated understanding/knowledge of materials selection for complex systems in hostile environments

  • Ability to execute technical and programmatic communications to both internal and external customers

  • Presentation/briefing material preparation and delivery is key in providing status to internal/external customers

  • Familiarity with REACh

  • Expertise in life support systems including systems comprised of fans and pumps driven by brushless motors, heat exchangers and accumulators, controllers, and air purification hardware

  • Experience with special processes such as welding, soldering, and adhesive bonding

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or a Master's degree in Material Engineering, Material Science or a related field is preferred
